Many laptop owners make the mistake of only investing in a laptop cooler when there laptop begins to overheat, what they fail to realize is that if they had invested in a laptop cooler from the offset their laptop would not have become faulty! Laptop coolers work to prevent overheating by pushing air into your laptops vents, effectively helping out your fan; they also prevent the blocking of those air vents when using your laptop on your lap or in bed.

On this page we introduce you to what we consider to be the best laptop coolers on the market – with links to buy them at the best online prices via Amazon!

1. Antec Unbeatable Notebook Cooler 200

The Antec Unbeatable Notebook Cooler is just that – unbeatable. At least, in terms of cooling power it is ‘almost’ unbeatable. It uses a giant ‘big boy’ 200mm fan to provide a powerful current of air to the underside of your laptop. One of the best selling and top rated laptop coolers on Amazon, the Antec Unbeatable will appeal most to gamers who need their laptop cooler to pack a little more power.

The blue LED light suggests that the Antec Unbeatable has indeed been targeted towards gamers, but don’t worry it can be turned off it that isn’t your thing! The Unbeatable 200 isn’t for everybody, we can’t imagine a suited and booted business man taking one to a business meeting (smarter laptop coolers coming up!), at under $60 with free shipping it is by no means the cheapest laptop cooler around but we think that it is worth every penny (normal retail price $89.95).

2. Zalman ZM-NC2000 Notebook Cooler

Next up we have another top rated laptop cooler, the Zalman ZM-NC2000 is so good that it beats its predecessor - the Zalman NC-3000U (featured below at number 4). This cooler is made from 3mm thick aluminium, a conductive metal which draws in heat and stores it as cold; it has 928 vent holes which evenly distribute the cool air from the two centered fans across the bottom of your laptop. It is available in two colors – black or silver, most will buy the color which matches their laptop!

The Zalman ZM-NC2000 will work perfectly for any laptop up to 17 inches in size, the ergonomic design is comfortable whilst rubber grips stop your laptop from slipping. With a normal retail price of $73.99 this cooler is by no means cheap, but you are paying for real quality here – if you want an aluminium cooler you have to pay good money for it! If you buy from Amazon you can typically buy one for around $65 with free shipping.

3. Cooler Master Notepal U1 / U2 / U3 Notebook Cooler

On our website dedicated to Laptop Coolers we have said maybe a thousand times: “If in doubt, buy a Cooler Master U Series”, and there is good reason for that. The Cooler Master Notepal U Series of coolers have completely movable fans, you can detach them and reattach them to sit directly under the precise vent positions of your laptop! You are pretty much tailoring the cooler to work the best that it can for your specific laptop model, there is no other laptop cooler on the market which can lay claim to being suitable for every laptop around!

The Cooler Master U1 has one fan and is best suited to netbooks and laptops up to 14 inches, the Cooler Master U2 has two fans and is best suited to laptops up to 17 inches in size, whilst the Cooler Master U3 has three fans and is best suited to laptops up to 19 inches. These coolers aren’t the prettiest but they are fantastic value at between $14 – $28 on Amazon depending on which size you require, they aren’t the lightest either although they are still fully portable thanks to the ability to slot your laptop into the legs at the bottom to maintain a slim profile and will fit into most laptop bags with your laptop!

4. Zalman NC-3000U Notebook Cooler

Another awesome Zalman cooler is this one, the Zalman NC-3000U, technically the successor to the Zalman ZM-NC2000 featured above. We just don’t believe that it is any more effective at cooling (despite having an astonishing 1300 vent holes instead of 928). There simply wasn’t anything wrong with the original Zalman and the only change that we can see is less aluminium and more plastic being used in the construction.

It does have something which the Zalman NC-2000 doesn’t offer however, and that is an integrated USB hub. If you use a lot of gadgets and always feel a bit short of USB ports then buying a laptop cooler and USB hub in one is a great solution! If you don’t feel the need for additional USB ports however, we would choose the older Zalman. This cooler sells for less than its predecessor (as it should do, with the cheaper materials used) with a normal retail price of $69.99 but available for around $55 including shipping charges if purchased from Amazon.

5. Thermaltake Massive23 LX Laptop Cooler

Those who own gaming laptops or indeed those who run demanding applications will appreciate this super-powerful Thermaltake Massive23 LX, very similar in design to the Antec Unbeatable 200 with one huge central fan of 230mm in size. The fan lights up with blue LED’s, something which gamers will love! Both the LED and the cooler itself has on and off switches, whilst a convenient storage space holds the USB cable when in storage or transit.

The Thermaltake Massive23 LX is one of the few laptop coolers suitable for 19 inch laptops and at just $29.99 plus free shipping on Amazon represents great value for money when compared to similar products.

6. Cooler Master Notepal X2 Notebook Cooler

There seems to be a big trend for laptop cooler manufacturers to make coolers which light up with a bright blue LED light, this is Cooler Master’s offering, it is suitable for laptops up to 17 inches in size. We really like the Notepal X2, just another in a long line  of awesome Cooler Master products – a particularly awesome feature is the fan speed control. Turn it down when performing light tasks, like word processing, and whack it up when your laptop starts getting hot or whilst playing a graphically demanding game!

It also has two different height settings enabling you to find the perfect ergonomic typing position. Personally we consider the the U1, U2, and U3 coolers featured above to offer greater value for money – particularly considering the materials used, at around $26 with free shipping on Amazon (normal retail price $29.99) it is no cheaper than their solid aluminium alternatives, but that is probably testimony to the value for money of those coolers rather than a suggestion that this one is in any way overpriced!

7. Macally TUNEFAN 2.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer and Cooling Fan

Now for something completely different, the Macally Tunefan incorporates two 2 watt speakers and a sub-woofer, meaning that a boring laptop cooler turns into something which compliments your entertainment system and gives a much needed boost to typically quiet and tinny laptop speakers!

Can it get any better than that? Actually it can, for it also includes a USB hub offering four ports! The Macally TUNEFAN is a hugely popular product with excellent customer reviews, customers love the way that the bass from their favorite music ripples on their thighs and the way that movie downloads are actually audible without having to be hooked up to external speakers or your TV!

As you can imagine it doesn’t come cheap, in fact at around $75 with free shipping it is the most expensive laptop cooler on our list. It normally retails at $99.oo however, and we think that it’s worth every penny – especially if you own a laptop with poor quality speakers!

8. Cooler Master NotePal Ergostand Notebook Cooler

For those who already own an adjustable laptop stand who are worried about how they will adapt to switching to a laptop cooler, this is the solution. The Cooler Master NotePal Ergostand Notebook Cooler is – in our opinion – the best product on the market which can be considered both a laptop cooler and laptop stand in one. With five different viewing angles to choose from, if there were an award for most ergonomic laptop cooler this would certainly win!

The Cooler Master Notepal Ergostand also comes complete with an integrated USB hub, great news for those who own lots of gadgets such as iPads, digital cameras, and external hard drives. A single central 140mm fan

9. Targus Lap Chill Mat

Another good cooler, and one which reminds me of the Zalman ZM-NC2000, is the Targus Lap Chill Mat. This cooler has a couple of major selling points, perhaps the biggest being that is one of the few laptop coolers suitable for 19 inch laptops, another being the integrate USB slots.

At a little over $30 with free shipping the Targus Lap Chill Mat is great lower cost alternative to a Zalman and great value for a cooler made entirely of metal. Owners of MacBook’s may be interested to know that there is also a Targus Lap Chill Mat for Mac.

Also worthy of a mention is the NZXT Cryo-LX, which is on our list over at BestLaptopCoolers.com – unfortunately it has been out of stock for some time and hard to get hold of, if that becomes available again online we will update this list to reflect its availability!
