Laptop shopping with a $2000 budget will result in you picking up an incredible system, just so long as you manage to trawl through the hoards of over priced laptops and identify the systems which are truly worth such an outlay. Rewind the clock by as little as six or seven years and $2000 wouldn’t even buy you a top end machine, but technology has become cheaper and such as a budget is considered very high end now. But how do you identify the stand out laptops to ensure that you get the best value for your money?

One of the best ways is to simply use the advanced search feature on any major online retailer which allows uncensored customer reviews and ratings, and configure that search to identify the top rated laptops in your price range. To save you the hassle we have identified the two laptops which currently have the highest average customer rating on Amazon.com, and the result is  two absolutely fantastic systems! This article covers the top rated laptops between $1500 and $2000, if your desired budget is actually lower than $1500 than head over to the page covering the Top Rated Laptops Under $1500 for more great options.

ASUS G73SW-A1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop

Yet again we get to feature an ASUS laptop, a brand which has really stolen the show already with the the top spot in the category Top Rated Laptops Under $1500 as well as both laptops in the Under $900 category! It really shouldn’t come as a surprise, ASUS have had a gleaming reputation as one of the most reliable laptop brands around ever since a major 2009 survey by insurance giants SquareTrade  - which tracked some 30000 laptops over a three year period – revealed that ASUS laptops are less likely to experience hardware failure than any other laptop brand!

This laptop, the ASUS G73SW-A1, is marketed as a gaming laptop and currently available for just $1519.98 plus free shipping, and is a true powerhouse. Whilst it is quite rightfully marketed as such, this will handle any game online or offline with ease, it can quite easily be described as the ultimate all-in-one entertainment and business machine! As can be expected from a laptop this expensive, it uses an Intel i7 processor, the precise chip is the super powerful Intel Core i7-2630QM, and it is the same chip that ASUS are using in most of their high end laptops right now.

In simple terms, if you don’t know what the i7 is, your laptop will be using a quad core processor meaning that FOUR processors will be working to process your demanding tasks, rather than the two that a dual core processor such as many of the older i5 models which can typically now be found in mid-range laptops. The ASUS G73SW-A1 comes loaded with 8GB of system memory (1333Mhz), distributed across four slots (2GB per slot) and can be upgraded to some 16GB if in a few years your system begins to lag a little! You can put your money on not needing that upgrade for some time.

The graphics chip used is the Nvidia GTX 460M (1.5GB GDDR5!), a component worthy of standing alongside the i7 and one which was only released at the tail end of 2010. To buy the Nvidia GTX 460M seperately as an upgrade to your existing laptop you would be looking at paying at least $160 for that component alone! Perhaps one of the biggest selling points of this laptop is the 1TB of hard drive space which is split over two hybrid (HDD + SSD) 500GB hard drives (7200RPM), that is an astonishing amount of space and you would have to be an obsessive collector of high definition movies to ever fill it.

We haven’t held back in our praise for other ASUS laptops on this site, but this one is simply far superior to anything featured in any of the lower budgets, this laptop is well worth the asking price. It is the first laptop featured to have a Blu-Ray Combo Drive for example, has twice the amount of hard drive space as the ASUS laptop featured in the under $1500 category, and it has the largest full HD display that we have seen so far on this site. Other smart features include a USB 3.0 port, 2 megapixel webcam, and three USB 2.0 ports.

If the pure quality of the components and superior power aren’t quite enough to sell you this laptop, then you should probably be made aware that ASUS offer a unique free 1 year accidental damage warranty on this laptop which covers stuff which is simply your fault! This is alongside the standard  warranty for hardware failure etc. Which other laptop brand will replace your laptop due to damage caused by YOU spilling YOUR coffee on the keyboard? I certainly can’t name one. In addition the ‘standard’ warranty isn’t 1 year for this laptop, as it almost always is with other laptop models, you actually get a 2 year warranty! That shows just how much confidence ASUS have in the reliability of their laptops. You also get a free backpack and mouse, believe it or not, it’s always nice to get free stuff!

In conclusion a simply awesome system for general use, gaming, business use, entertainment, graphic design, music production, whatever you want a laptop to do this one will handle it. Head over to Amazon where at time of writing it is available for the best online price of a little over $1500 with free shipping, despite a usual retail price of $1849! The Asus G73SW-A1 makes our selection of the Best Gaming Laptops Under $2000, as well as our selection of the Best Multimedia Laptops Under $2000.

Apple MacBook Pro MC723LL/A 15.4-Inch Laptop

The second top rated laptop under $2000 will please Mac lovers, when buying a Mac there is really little sense in buying a lower budget one, you need to go straight in at a higher budget or choose a PC. In lower price ranges we have recommended against buying an Apple Mac, but the MC723LL/A is an altogether different prospect. It is, frankly, an incredible system with awesome specifications. At just under $2000 with free shipping, a price which sometimes fluctuates over $2000 (it is sold by Apple for $2199, the best online price can be found at Amazon), it doesn’t come cheap but is worth every penny.

A powerful Intel Core i7 processor (2.2GHz), and a 750 GB Hard Drive make this system an absolute powerhouse. The AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor makes this the perfect system for graphics applications, gaming, watching HD movies, and video production; as can be expected when buying a high end MacBook Pro. It has a plentiful 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, an integrated FaceTime HD Camera, and runs Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard.

We won’t write too much about this MacBook, because we all prefer to PC and would buy the ASUS, but if you prefer to Mac then head over to Amazon for more information, and to check out those almost perfect customer reviews. An astonishing 29 of the 36 reviews have awarded this system a perfect 5 star rating. It is worth pointing out however this this particular MacBook has some fine sounding speakers, which is important to those who want to produce music, listen to music, or watch HD movies! The battery life of 7 hours is also astonishing for a 15.4 Inch laptop, making it a great option for those who want to use in coffee shops, on planes, on trains, or anywhere else that is unlikely to have a power supply.
